Afghanistan
Overcoming barriers, transforming lives, and building national capacity
PACTEC
serves more than 200 agencies and humanitarian groups in Afghanistan. PACTEC
aviation, communications, and learning technologies services enable and
maximize critically needed medical assistance, relief efforts, and community
development programs.
In an area where abject poverty, poor health and
malnutrition are the norm, along with high infant, child, and maternal
mortality rates, PACTEC brings much-needed aid through its programs. In operation since 1997, PACTEC
provides a comprehensive humanitarian aid program, including communications
support. 30 expatriate staff, four aircraft and some 100 communications systems provide
some of today's most powerful tools for overcoming formidable barriers; such as
vast regions, rugged landscape, and decimated infrastructures that impede
travel and communications.
Aviation Services
PACTEC planes and pilots provide logistical support and transportation to many of Afghanistan's remote regions. They support medical efforts and provide air ambulance services, as well as security evacuations. By flying to isolated areas, they help to extend the work of relief and medical personnel and can deliver supplies for clean water projects, schools, and hospitals. They are often called on to transport the personnel and resources to disarm antipersonnel mines.
Communications
PACTEC communications systems help NGOs operate effectively and safely.
VSAT satellite Internet connectivity supports the efforts of humanitarian and Christian NGOs and hospitals, as well as those of relief and development agencies. The reliability and effectiveness of this communications lifeline greatly maximizes the work of NGOs in Afghanistan and enables them to increase their focus on remote projects—where needs are greatest.
PACTEC training also allows national staff to remain on the cutting edge of communications technology to meet the needs of remote villages.
Throughout Afghanistan, unique PACTEC services also include installing and maintaining computer LANs (local area networks) and assisting those without ready access to technical support. Through its VSAT installations, PACTEC enables email, voice and data transmission capability for NGOs, as well as relief and development programs.
